It began in 1958 when a salesman was assigned by Rubbermaid Inc. to call on hotels to sell doormats and bathmats. His sales pitch was the start of Rubbermaid’s institutional business, formally established as Rubbermaid Commercial Products.
1958
We became a separate entity from Rubbermaid, Inc. and a new 145,000 squarefoot plant was built in Winchester, Virginia to manufacture and market products for commercial and institutional markets. The iconic BRUTE® container was born.
1968
Manufacture and bring to market our first resin mop bucket.
1974
Following a decade of highly successful growth and development, we begin expanding outside of the Winchester area and build a second facility in Cleburne, Texas.
1978
Pioneer the development of high-performance industrial, cleaning and agricultural products, and solidify a market leadership position that would remain in place for years to come.
1984
Leading the way with innovation, we develop our the first touch-free automated soap system, beginning our legacy of washroom innovation.
1985
Acquire SECO Industries of Cleveland, Tennessee, a leading manufacturer of textile floor care products and other sanitary maintenance products.
1986
With continued success, we set our sights to international expansion, continued innovation and environmental initiatives.
1992
We are named America’s Most Admired Corporation by Fortune magazine.
1994
Newell Brands acquires Rubbermaid Commercial Products, marking the beginning of a period of change within the organization.
1999
We introduce our innovative WaveBrake® Mop Bucket to the market. Designed to tackle the common problem of splashing in traditional mop buckets, this new model incorporates internal baffles that effectively break up waves, resulting in a 40% reduction in splashing.
2005
We develop the revolutionary 44-gallon Vented BRUTE®, a groundbreaking container in its class. By incorporating innovative venting channels, we made liner removal up to 50% easier.
2007
We acquire United Metal Receptacle, a producer of decorative waste management and smoking management products and accessories for the commercial facilities market.
